Has anyone had any experience of using electronic devices to detect seizures on children? My 13 year old son is diagnosed with epilepsy and we are aware of absences during the day but suspect the odd possible tonic-clonic during the night. We are looking into the options but there has been little research about their accuracy/value. Any advice or experiences welcome. Thanks.

Any hospital will arrange a sleep study for you. It can be done in the hospital or you can take the equipment home.

Hi steve31
We can't make recommendations. But we've some information on our website about different mobile seizure alarms, bed alarms and apps that might be useful for people with epilepsy. epilepsy.org.uk/info/daily-...
We are also often asked for feedback about alarms and monitors, but it is rare that people tell us about their experiences with these products. If you are looking for feedback about different products, as well as this platform, you might be able to ask others through our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.

hi there.
I have recently started using the embrace empactica
It is a seizure alert watch
It detects tonic clonic seizures when they are happening
I have them at any time.
It’s tried and tested by me and it has detected 3 TC seizures now
It then alerts registered care givers that you need assistance
It’s been a game changer for me.
Reduced anxiety and increased independence
There was a waiting list for this.
Got an email when it was available
as I said i have tried and tested it.
It works and it is well worth getting!
Hope this helps
Hello Charlie, Thanks for the info. Did you have to self purchase this or was it available via the NHS or Adult Social Care please?
apparently a certain model of the Apple IWatch can act as a seizure detection device as well but I’m not too sure how accurate they are .
Hopefully you get what you need.
Good luck
We have now got a Garmin smart watch and putting a separate detection app on it which alarms my phone when pulse rate or oxygen saturation become abnormal. He wears it at night as we noticed he had focal seizures with accompanying high pulse rate up to 130. He also has an anti suffocation pillow as we are worried about his breathing being affected at night with seizures we don't know about.
