Can you work night if you have Epilepsy?
Working Nights: Can you work night if you... - Epilepsy Action
Working Nights
Hi gerry65berry
Over half of people with epilepsy in the UK are seizure free, as their seizures are controlled by medicine. If an employee is seizure-free there might not be any additional risks for them at work.
Working night is not an automatic no for people with epilepsy. It all depends on their own situation.
We know for some people lack of sleep or change in sleep can affect their epilepsy. Especially people who have seizures in their sleep.
We recently launched our Employers toolkit that covers information on safety and risk assessment that you an any employers may find helpful.

Everyone's epilepsy is different but personally I found shift work and nights made things worse for me, a good sleep pattern helped. However I have a type of epilepsy where seizures occur after getting up in the morning. It's important to know what affects your type of epilepsy.Hope this helps.
No. I wouldn't advise it. Epilepsy doesn't like it if you interfere with your body clock. Our brains weren't designed to sleep during daylight hours. This has been researched. The message is DO NOT work at night if you've epilepsy.
