Sometimes I wake up a little earlier than I want and experience weird thoughts such as why things are named certain ways or random little jokes that I tell myself. It almost feels as if I’ve drunk the night before and my mind can’t settle. Is there an explanation for this? Just a tired brain or related to my epilepsy?

I have epilepsy, I’ve been diagnosed for roughly 15 yrs. Most of the seizures I experience are petitmal and most times when I wake up. It happens more often when I’m stressed or sleep deprived. I hallucinate with this type of seizure, and I have enjoyed it. The neurologist I see said this was common. When I experience this I am confused, and most times don’t remember anything I said or did. Complete blackout. With less severe ones I am just aware I am having one and I try to play them off in front of others. I remember most things, but there’s nothing enjoyable about those. I am aware I am having a seizure. I hope this helps! If you’re concerned, it’s always best to speak to your doctor.
Hi Dan – this could be related to seizure activity but it’s hard to know for sure. I’m linking you to our information about focal seizures in case there’s anything there that can help you: epilepsy.org.uk/info/seizur...
You could keep a diary for a while to see if there’s any pattern: epilepsy.org.uk/info/diagno.... It could be worth talking to your epilepsy doctor as well.
I hope you can get an answer to your question. But if you want to talk anything through you’d be welcome to call us at the Helpline.

Thank you, I have had a look at potentially being focal seizures. Ever since I started on my medication has it come up, and I think when I tend to go to bed a bit later/ on my phone later it happens. I’m also not sure if what I eat could also be mixing with my meds.
Thank you for the information! I’ve been trying to get a hold of my neurologist but tough with everything going on!
