This week I was told I have epilepsy I am 76 years old and this is a new world for me
My medication is Lamotrigine .I was being treated for a small stroke I had in February and was admitted to A&E because I fell in the street last week and after tests and scans Consultant gave me the news .I feel nervous but I will get on and learn all about this condition .hope to make new friends .

It must have been a shock been diagnosed with epilepsy. Epilepsy can start at any age, and there’s not always a reason. Sometime when a person has had a stroke, the damage the stroke has caused to the brain can cause someone to develop epilepsy.

Thank you for your reply I'm sure I will find the information on Health unlocked very helpful and friendly .
Do not worry about epilepsy, it is the stigma, the old 'legends', ignorance of the condition, that scares the general public. There are plenty of drugs for the condition, I am on Epilim and Lamictal, I think I have tried most of them, I 'started' when I was 14. There have been several improvements in medication and treatment since then, general ignorance about the condition has lessened greatly. Keep in touch with your epilepsy specialist [find your local one via your GP], of your various side effects, he will be able to advise you on medication and limits. I have had epilepsy for over 40 years, but it only since I retired 3 years ago that my amount of seizures have decreased dramitically, [2 since December 2013] I find coming to terms with it, less pressure, getting a set routine for each day, finding your limits always helps. Most of my friends are aware of my condition. Keep your pecker up!
