Hi, I'm Jane and I'm new to the site. I am wondering what medication do you take and is it effective? Thanks

Hi, not sure what you actually experience after a seizure... Please give more details... I have had epilepsy for 39 years, take Phenytoin and Carbamazapine which I have been on for many years. This has suited me fine. I look forward to hearing more details.

I have had epilepsy for 50 years, and have been taking Phenytoin and Lamotrogine, and this suits me very well. Many years since I suffered a seizure. I am now 62yrs of age, and epilepsy is in our family. My father, my younger son and my niece also. My son had a brain operatio 2 years ago, and has been seizure free ever since. Keep in touch

Hi haydn74,

So glad to hear you are seizure free, together with your son. I went through a phase of being 15 months seizure free recently, but there was a family upset which upset my pattern. Now 3 weeks free at the moment and hoping to reach the same record. Reading your message regarding your Dad, younger son and niece having epilepsy, I remember having an argument with a Neurologist requesting whether epilepsy was hereditary. He told me it wasn't but at the age of sixteen and taking 3 years for diagnosis, I had done research and found out it was/could be. Funnily enough, my Granny had minor petit mal epilepsy, which made me ask. Several years ago, I decided to have a full hysterectomy worrying my children would also have it. A tough decision to make, but I had to be logical and didn't want to take the risk of them going through it too. As I've got older, there's been a great improvement, but I often wonder what the outcome would have been if I had children.

Phenytoin and Carbamazapine have done me well, and I must admit, I wouldn't change my medication now.
