Hi Blondyskyblue,

I have Endometriosis and IBS (Mirena Coil in situ and taking the Progesterone Only Pill).

I have recently started going to see a Nutritianist after getting fed up of having to take so many tablets a day. Unfortunately, this has had to be self funded as my doctor wouldn't refer me sue to 'budget cuts'.

I just want to share with you what a difference it has made just in this short amount of time. I have gone gluten free and the change is just amazing.

My IBS symptoms have basically dissapeared as the period pains are a lot more manageable as I don't have to put up with both! They are also less frequent.

It is hard at first becuase changing your diet is! But 4 weeks in I don't ever want to eat anything containing Gluten again! Sainsbury's do an amzing gluten free section and restaurants are always so accommodating (and I eat out a lot!).

I've read people writing the above before and never really believed it but after trying this I would reccommend to anyone.

I am hoping to try and come off my Pill and I have not had to take painkillers or IBS tablets for 2 weeks!

Good Luck!

Trinket x

I heard a lot of anecdotal evidence for cutting out wheat, but was resistant to trying anything without proper studies. A friend of mine is an immunopathologist specialising in macrophages (which are responsible for inflammation). I asked him to look up studies and he said there weren't any, but that on a cellular level, it made absolute sense. As I recall, he said the lectin stimulates macrophages, so they create more inflammation. I cut out wheat and within a month it made a huge difference. Instead of staying on the sofa in total pain throughout my period, I was able to go to work *and* out in the evening. Although the endo did continue to get worse, excluding wheat made it a lot easier. So - not a cure-all for me, but a massive help.

I saw a nutritionalist after suffering for 3 years and it has made a difference, I have also lost weight which I have always struggled to do.

I was unsure at first because I gave up wheat, dairy, alcohol, caffiene and sugar all together but it has made the pain a little easier

Well this all sounds interesting , the reason I ask is I have been on herbal liquid for 2 months now, things for pain , inflamation, scar tissue etc and as yet I still come on just under every 2 weeks. My herbalist is trying to tailor the herbs to me just taking long time. I am giving up gluton today snack ideas would really help, something easy to eat quickly at work....also read about a lady who became vegan and now has no probs. I am on femalin pill but going to doctors to see what else I can do as I was only offered an operation or marina coil but as I have not had children, It would not fit. So as you can see I am getting stuck with ideas and feeling a bit left on my own and yes I have to pay for everything also and would'nt mind if I saw some good signs.

thanks for helping guys

I carry oatcakes everywhere - easy substitute for bread and they come in little packets which is handy. (Also apples and a bottle of water!) Frittata is nice and quick (not the proper spanish kind - just some fried veg, eg peppers, or spinach, and whisked egg poured over it, top with a bit of cheese and pop under the grill for the last bit). For work lunches - soups in winter; salads in summer; jacket potato with filling; I used to mostly just take leftover dinner to be honest. And if you want bread or sandwiches, Sainsbury's stocks Genius bread which is pretty good. (Also freezes well and makes great toast!)

I cut wheat out of my diet 6 months ago, I have gone from taking prescribed painkillers almost everyday to being able to take paracetemol just one day a month. I've had endometriois for 24 years and after many operations and trying all types of drugs, I decided to research the effects of diet myself. For me it has been life changing but I cannot say it will be the same for everyone but it is worth a try surely!!

Hello, last year i had yet another labroscopy and my endo had again come back. I will be 40 next year and was diagnosed when i was 19, no one ever told me the connection with endo and diet. After doing some research I am wheat and gluten free and mainly dairy free too and the contant bloating has ceased and i feel much better but as to the endo we shall wait and see. A good book with recipes to try is Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet by Carolyn Levett and I also have a lovely boyfriend who has made me some nice gluten free cakes. Another book is Great Gluten Free Baking by Loise Blair. More places are doing gluten and wheat free items Tesco, Sainsburys etc are great. Trial and error with bread i didn't like M&S bread rolls as they fall apart but Sainsbuys were good. For snacks go for nuts, seeds, oatcakes and hummous, rice cakes etc lunches rice dishes, salads, jacket potatoes, wheat free pasta etc. Good luck and perservere!

Hi all

I was diagnosed with endo at 21 after 7 years of doctors and idiot consultants telling it me was IBS. School chipped in periodically to say it was psychosematic and I was attention seekeing!

I lost confidence as I didnt feel I was being taken seriously at face value or in my studies.

3 laparoscopies later to remove cysts and adhesions, countless trips to A&E through chronic pain and abnormally heavy bloodloss a chance encounter with the A&E nurse who took my bloods and is also a sufferer has changed my life.

I refused further hormonal treatment, the pill, something to chemically induce a menopausal like state and so on as I always has side effects which for me was frying pan to fire.

I met the nurse in July and she told me about excluding wheat from her diet. I was aboutto go onto prescription morphine as I couldn't take it (the pain) any longer and prescrition painkillers and alternative therapy were no longer even making it manageable.

She told me cutting wheat and gluten from her diet have resulted in ger coming off morphine, her IBS is non existent now, and she can cope with periods.

when I was discharged I set about researching it (I had done so before as a teen but there was not the scope of information that there is now available). New information indicates a connection between diet and endo I found an endometriosis diet which excludes wheat, gluten, dairy and suguar with a wealth or recipes - which are delicious and since July and after three month of gradual imrovement I am so much better.

The pain is manageble to the point I can take an over counter remedy and use my trusted hot water bottle and I an mot crippled (I am not exagerrating I really was unable to walk for 2-3 days a month) with pain.

My IBS is all but gone, I feel healthier, I have lost weight, less bloating. I used have awful ovulation pain, this too has reduced significantly.

My confidence is improving and my three year old no longer worries about mummys tummy aches. I am 33 now, I can't make up for lost time but the future is certainly alot brighter my confidence is improving and I have a much better can do attitude.

All I would sat is to any one suffering, can you not try cutting wheat out if there is a chance it will help you? It really has helped me.

My goodness you poor love, I am shocked how bad it can be and apart from just under every two weeks of coming on and a managable tummy ach for a week , think after all this chat we have had I am one of the lucky ones...think i have adverted an endo on time last monday . Bad tummy again less then two weeks before last one , I thought here we go again...stopped the reflexology the next day and took two tsp of my herbal liquid and today think its gone away..thats a first to be able to stop it.

Seconed day of no wheat and defo going to get the books that was recomened to me above.

if only doctors would tell these poor women about change of diet , so do you think I should change my femalin pill ?..I take it every single day. I cant get pregnant though as I also have a metal rod all the way down my spine , but need advise on this pill please.

here is the link to the site I found, you can also order a recipe book which I did and this is more or less the diet I follow which has helped me.

There is a lot of information on there, hopefully it will help more of you.

My acupuncturist advised me to cut out cold food and drink. Food and drink at room temperature and warm/hot foods are good to because (I know this may sound a bit barmy as I though it did at first), but pain can be worsened from a block in energy flow, cold foods don't help the energy to keep flowing well. My lower abdomen always felt cool to touch even when the rest of my body felt warm, and since cutting out cold food and drink it has actually helped reduce the occurrence of pain :)
