Mental health with endo

Hi everyone,

I'm in the waiting stage between being told I have suspected endometriosis by my gynecologist, waiting for my mri results and looking to go private in the new year but I can't help but notice my mental health has declined. Between the everyday extreme pain and nausea, chasing up doctors/meds and just being gaslit by medical professionals I feel utterly depressed.

I cant afford therapy as I'm saving for an endo specialist but I'm guessing I'm not the only one who will be feeling so low as this is a horrible thing to live with. I'm just looking for any suggestions from people who have gone through this on what they do to pick them selves up? Any thing that helps mentally cope? Thank you so much in advance x

Hi Lavenderpetal sorry to hear you are feeling this way. This disease can drag us down dealing with pain but usually many years of being misunderstood by health care system. If you feel able endometriosis uk has lots of in person and online groups where everyone can relate and often get lots of advice. You can join the groups on their website or follow on Instagram.

Being kind to yourself and doing something nice for yourself be that listening to music/podcast or if you're feeling able getting put for a walk or watching something are all things I've done during flairs. If you can speak to a trusted friend or family member about what you're feeling as even if they can't relate they will want you to live well with endo.

Also to say you're managing a very hard condition and all that comes with it like the medical admin is like having another job, which takes resilience and courage!! xxx

Hi Chelseagrl,

Thank you for replying! Unfortunately my local endo group is no longer running! I'm hoping I can find another group even if I have to travel as I really need people who understand! But I will look into the online ones I had no idea they did them😊

Yes the admin is getting to me especially feeling like I have to prove to certain doctors that other ones have flagged up its endo! It's exhausting! Thank you for your advice💗

hey Lavender petal, I hear you. If you live in the uk please Google your geographic area and ‘talking therapy’ you should be able to access via the nhs. Only six sessions but free and worthwhile. I’d also recommend taking vitamin d and magnesium - both support your mental health! A sad lamp is a good investment for the winter too.

Life is generally getting harder at the moment and this condition has a huge impact as you know. The admin that goes with it is immense. Practising self care is invaluable in any way you can and however it looks for you.

Much love from your womb sisters x
