Zoledex no HRT

I have my first appointment of 5 next Tuesday for zodelex (for endo) with the expectation of hysterectomy next year , I can’t take HRT because I have hormone related liver tumours that would be effected by HRT.

I’ve read other posts on zoledex and get a feel that it’s a mixed bag in respect of how people react on it , I was wondering if anyone knew of a natural alternative for HRT and I’ve also read zoledex can effect your bones and to take calcium and vitamin D supplements, my gynaecologist hasn’t mentioned this to me and it’s very difficult to get hold of them to ask questions, can anyone tel me if they have used other supplements during the process please? Many thanks x

Hi, I was also on zoladex with no HRT due to hormone related breast cancer. I was on it for 2 1/2 years and it did impact my bones quite significantly so I recently stopped it. I was then prescribed a weekly tablet of alendronic acid and a daily high strength calcium with vit D tablet to restore my bones.

I don't think you would be taking it for as long as I did, as you expect to have a hysterectomy next year, so may not need to be too concerned. I would say it's worth taking a high strength calcium and vit D supplement though.

I would also be careful with natural supplements that can increase your hormone levels in place of HRT as these could also negatively impact your tumours. Best to check with your consultant before taking anything.

Best of luck with it.

thank you so much for this , I really appreciate the experience, I will check on Tuesday with whoever I get to see , it’s near on impossible to contact the consultant directly 😖 I didn’t even consider about supplements with hormone levels 🫣 thank you very much for replying x

Hi SJPalm,

Ive been on Zoladex for six months and took Tibolone at the beginning but stopped taking it a few months later and I’ve been absolutely fine, no symptoms at all. I know as you say everyone is different and I hope you will be the same as me.

I take calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K2. I definitely feel a different taking these as I did notice my joints sore. I’ve also started to lift weights as this is meant to be very good for bone strength too, nothing major, just managed to get up to 5kg weights this week so a long way off becoming a bodybuilder 😀xx
