I had my first excision surgery in January this year, it ended up being a big op with me having to have part of my bowel removed and large endometriomas removed from both ovaries. Things have been going well with my recovery, until this month when I had some sharp pain in my side and bad bloating around ovulation, which I was worried about. Luckily I was seeing my consultant for a follow up so he suggested an ultrasound “just to put my mind at ease”.
On the ultrasound they saw a large hemorrhagic ovarian cyst on my left side which was leaking fluid and what they think is a small (1.5cm) endometrioma on my right ovary. My uterus was also tilted and the scanner said it was difficult to see.
So basically I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar this soon after excision surgery? It’s only been 4 1/2 months since my surgery - can endometriosis come back that quickly?? Before I had the scan my consultant said it was highly unlikely, but it seems to me like it has? I have to wait now for my consultant to ring me with my results (he didn’t do the scan himself) so I’m going to be panicking until I hear from him! Thank you for any advice anyone might have x

I am in the same situation as I had a laparoscopy beginning of august 2022. They removed endotrioma cysts on the right ovary that was 20cm and the right was 10cm. They did not remove the endo on my bowel or rectum as it was too dangerous. I was then put on zoladex for three months. My period returned in December 2022. I had a check up and also was experiencing sharp pelvic pains on the right.
I was sent for a scan in March 2023 found the endotrioma cysts had returned on both ovaries. The one on the right was about 10cm already and on the left was half the size.
Sadly this happens quite a lot. Sometimes the endo has come back, sometimes the surgeon has missed it, it's v hard to tell. See what the scan says but consider getting a second opinion , I've heard loads of patienets and freinds have this experience but never yet found a surgeon who admits to missing the endo. I'm really sorry it's gutting. Go back and see if you can get something to stop your periods that can really help. Good luck. xx
