zoladex injection misfire?

Hi,

Looking for some advice regarding Zoladex 3.6mg implant injection, I recently went for my third monthly injection which have been a complete god send in terms of managing my pain and completely stopping my periods. However this month before my appointment I had to have an ECG due to palpitations I am experiencing so my nurse did this then I had to wait back out in the waiting room whilst the Dr reviewed it and she told me she would see me between her next patients.

Within 10mins the nurse dipped out of one of her appointments and rushed me to another room to administer the injection. The injection was so painful this time and as she was rushing the injection didn’t ‘click back’ for a while it got stuck, once it was done the wound bled a fair bit but I never got a bruise as I normally would.

Over the past couple of days I’ve started experiencing period pain again as if I’m about to bleed, the pain is waking me up in the night and I just don’t feel how I normally do after these injections, is it possible the implant didn’t go in? Or didn’t go in the right place? I know my own body and I just don’t feel as I normally do right after which is usually great!

Is it acceptable to question this with my GP?

Thank you for any advice in advance!

Hey. Really sorry you went through this. I had the exact same thing happen for my third injection - I didn’t have the palpitations beforehand though. The needle got stuck or broke or something and next 5-6 days were hell - I had such a huge headache like my head was about the explode and my whole body felt so awful with a high fever - nothing like the previous two experiences. My nurse ended up giving me another one as she said the first one didn’t work, but I have a feeling a double dose was given as my reaction was so unlike the previous two experiences.

I actually ended up in a&e with my headache and fever and even they were stumped and ended up taking a MRI which didn’t show anything. The symptoms then resolved quite suddenly - probably as the zoladex got absorbed or something?!

I did raise it with my GP as I felt that it’s something that they should be trained in being able to manage. But tbh it didn’t really achieve anything - the GP and nurse just supported each other, but thankfully the symptoms just resolved by themselves.

All the best and really hope it settles down for you x
