Medically Induced Menopause?

Hi everyone.

I had my second consultation yesterday as my endo pain has just been getting worse over the past few months, and the prescribed painkillers haven’t been helping.

Despite being on this page and having done my own research, I went into my appointment sure that I would leave with “we’ll refer you for another laroscopy”. But not this time!

My first consultation was ok but it was nowhere near as in depth as my second! I had made a list of all the symptoms I have, and it’s been agreed to induce menopause.

I was shell shocked when the Dr suggested that. I’d heard of people who had menopause medically induced but I thought the treatment was for people who were stage 4, where as my laroscopy last June revealed my endo at stage 1. I instantly was thinking about my opportunity to start a family as I know that’s something that will happen at least in the next 5 years, but was assured that it is reversible and that I’ll still be able to have children.

So my question is, has anyone had menopause induced to treat endo? What can I expect? Has anyone gone on to have children after having menopause induced?

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Hi, I had extensive endo diagnosed and excised back in January. I’m currently on prostap which induced menopause and have been for five months, and my (excellent) gyne says there is no reason I can not continue with this long term-he has had women using it for years with no adverse effects. This might not be a decision all women want to make, and I will be having a hysterectomy in the future but no longer feel so rushed. As I am only 35 however, I have had to start HRT-I’m on my second month of that and I’m starting to get some of my symptoms again-which I put down to the HRT. I’m in a different position to others as I already have a child and so fertility is not an issue for me, I have no desire for more. I think the most important thing is that you are happy with your treatment and play an active role in deciding what that is, rather than it just happening to you.
