I’m off to the doctors this evening, well to see an advanced nurse practitioner as for the time I go there wasn’t a female dr available.
I’ve had very heavy, incredibly painful (fainting, nausea, sickness, pain traveling down my legs, unable to do anything until it’s over) periods for 11 years. Until my last two cycles, they’ve lasted double the time 10+ days, (I’m currently coming up to 15 days) of periods where I only bleed when going to the toilet...
I’ve had a few people tell me it sounds similar to endometriosis and I’d like to be checked for it, I don’t know much and I don’t know how you can tell or find out, but does anyone have any advice for me when I see the dr this afternoon and how to get them to listen and go through things with me? I also have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome so I tend to get fobbed off a lot 😞
Hi JessMcL. My consultant told me it takes an average of 7-10 years to be diagnosed with endo, for the very reasons you’ve said above! The first step is to be referred to a gynaecologist who will know better than a GP what to look for. If I were you I’d tell the GP all your symptoms and say you want a referral. If they won’t refer, ask why. Be as pushy as you need to be as it’s your health at stake and endo only gets worse with time. Good luck!
