hi everyone i have just finished making an appointment to see a gynaecologist ( my first one btw) and was just told on the phone that my gp requested me to have another ultrasound scan for my period pains. I had the scan done 2 weeks ago, i only had it done external and it came back normal. Well, the lady who did the scan told me everything looked normal after a minute in to the scan and i was quite disappointed.
I was not told by my gp that i have to have another one and i dont know why. But im taking this as that she took me seriously and so for that im grateful. i cant help but worry and i feel quite stupid about it.
I suspect this will be linked to your referral. Maybe the requirements of the referral are that it shouldve been a trans vaginal one or something shouldve been more specifically looked at. It's nothing you've done wrong so absolutely no reason for you to feel stupid.
There are pathways the GPS have to follow, I'm sure it's just something like that going on. I know it's difficult but try to not worry about it all. You'll likely have quite a lengthy wait and worrying will only make that more more unpleasant. Your GP is doing the right things so just now it's all out of your hands. Time to just look after yourself until you get seen by gynae.
Did she say why she wanted you to go for a second ultrasound? Are they expecting to find something different? And will it be another external one? I would call up your GP and ask what the reason is for the second ultrasound. It's your body, you need to know!
Sometimes another ultrasound is requested by the specialist / needed just for their records but the GP will process the request as part of the referral process, could this be possibly what's happening? Ultrasound pictures can be taken of different parts and different measurements then sent directly to your specialist, so they have a starting point.
