Endo and the Menopause

Hi, can anyone help? Going through the menopause, with endometriosis. Periods coming one after the other, a week apart. Not funny! Completely hacked off with it. Is this normal in the menopause? I thought they were to get further apart, until they stopped all together. Any wisdom out there? Love to hear from you. Thanks, Jue

There is no set pattern during peri-pause- going haywire is all we get told.

Plenty of things can be done to stop periods during this time so you can get on with life.

This is what any lady with endo should be doing if they can, anyway so they reduce the chances of endo spreading.

Mirena coil - 5 years

Skyla coil and nexplanon arm implants last 3 years

Depo-Provera injections last 3 months at a time

Norethisterone 3 tablets a day lasts as long as you take them religiously - then you have a period a few days after stopping or missing one or two.

Speak to your GP or the family planning clinic about getting which ever one you want to try out if you haven't had them before and had a bad reaction.

Mirena is the lowest hormone dose of them all and the longest lasting too. It's only 20% of the dose of birth control pills for example.

I found mirena fab - and after decades of problems it has transformed my existance. I'm 46 so should be approaching peri-pause in a few years, but won't hesitate to get the current mirena replaced when it runs out. I don't have any periods at all to worry about. They had been erratic since i first started. my teens were spent 1 week on 1 week off. In my 20's 28 day regular clock but long lasting bleeds. In my 30s haywire again anywhere from 2-5 weeks and no pattern at all.

The mirena went in when I was 43. I've been astounded at how well it has worked for me. Hope it can do as much for you too if you opt for it. Does take a few months to take effect to stop periods in the meantime they do get lighter, but will still be erratic till they stop. Definitely worth considering if you haven't had one before.
