Hi Lizzie :) a laparoscopy is such a regular procedure for surgeons that you have very little to worry about. There will be some pain afterwards but you should be fine with just paracetamol and ibuprofen, but your doctor will supply whatever pain medication you need. With regards to questions, I would only suggest that you make sure your surgeon gives you a copy of the pictures taken during surgery and that they explain each one. I only say this as I was diagnosed with endometriosis after my 2nd laparoscopy at the same time as having my appendix out, confirmed with pictures, but I never received pictures from the first one, so can't prove that the diagnosis was later than it should have been. Also I would ask if you stitches need removing or will dissolve as this is something people often forget. All in all take good care of yourself after the operation and don't worry too much :) you will be fine. Good luck!! Xxx

Hi

Thanks for your reply, I had my op but although a lap it was major surgery in the end as for what was done & removed.

I know its going to take a while.

Thanks again

Lizzie how are you doing?

Are you back home yet or have they kept you in for a bit?

Sending you speedy recovery wishes.

Operation went very well got all endo he could.

But twisted bowel in process of cutting bits away so agony on buscupan good stuff

I'm home early as stepping hill a god awful place at night left me waiting bedridden 3hrs for meds. I stumbled to toilet & fainted wobbly nurses awful at night(daytime lovely)

Ended up so bad doctor rushed up gave me enough morphine to knock out a horse!!

That would of been avoided I'm sure if regular pain relief given ESP as it was first day of actual operation & just left.

So bad other patients were calling nurses for me, I couldn't move racked with pain & one patient moved bed because of my wimpering!

Anyhow in home fat too early but just sleeping pain increases & only dribbling w & not emailed bowel yet which is worrying as thats going to hurt like hell considering i had bowel prep & then twisted squished cut bowel in surgery.

Anyhow got a mixture of horsepills & may ring doctor later about it as agreed with consultant she said you can go home if you promise to go local hosp if your bad.

( I told them all about terrible treatmenin night I said thats why I've hot up go home I mean who gives meds to someone without checking they move got water to drink them with or can physically sit up to take them?!) thry didn't!

Any pain relief advice welcome ive got 30/500mg cocodomol x2 & 400mg x2 every 4hrs but no more than 8 in 24hrs I'm due my 6 in abit....also using my tens. And got 10mg x2 buscapan3xs daily.

I'm abit of a mess but at least surgery went well & see again in 3months.

Thanks for caring. Xxxx

You're home, and that's always much better than staying in hosp.

buscopans do help relax your mucles which have been traumatised by surgery and could be having spasms out of sync with other muscles down there making loo trips an ordeal. you might need those meds for quite a while but the majority do recover eventually.

might take a week or two or anything up to several months.

My poor old bladder was out of control for 17 months post op, but is 100% back to normal now. It certainly took its time.

hopefully yours will sort itself right again much quicker than mine did.

after my big op i didn't have BM for about 5 days, and it did hurt but more on the tummy wounds than the bowel itself. part of the problem apart from keeping hydrated is that one tends to be less active when recovering from surgery and you do need to keep pottering aound as soon as you bare to try that, as it does keep the food moving and staves off DVT.

keep us posted on how you are getting on.

hugs to you and get well soon.

Thanks for advice :)

Yes it certainly was a much bigger op than 'just lap' the cons didn't want me to go home but I just couldn't stay no rest in their really noisy & like I said night nurses no good & that's when I was most vulnerable.

At least at home I can potter about like you say its needed. Not too much yet but to get my own drink etc!

I've had a thought if ive not b/o by Monday then give dr a ring. But I don't feel

Constipated at all. As think may need antibiotics too.

Got my legs up too for dvt just in case. Yes bladder is quite weird I need a w then a dribble.

Anyway thanks again your kind words helpful.
