I'm going to have my op on friday. I have pre assessment on thurs. What questions should I ask?

Is this your first operation for endo? Do you know if you are having a lap or is it more complex surgery?

If you are waiting for a lap then this surgery is usually done as a day case patient which means you will be able to go home the same day if there are no complications. Occasionally you may need to stay overnight depending on how far down the theatre list you are and if you have had sufficient time to recover from the anaesthetic.

You may need to ask if the consultant is wanting you to have one of the bowel cleansing powders before the surgery. Sone do, some dont and if you dont have to have it then thats a bonus as its horrible stuff!

Other than that the nurse usually takes height, weight, BP, bloods and ECG, allergy info etc. I only had my last op 6 months ago but didnt have a pre-op so apologies if I have missed anything.

Thanks for the info.I had a laparatomy 8yrs ago for endo but the nhs system has changed since then. I guess tomorrow they will have to tell me everything. They didn't mention staying overnight for pre assessment like last time.

At my hospital they give you a useful guide to preparing for the op and care afterwards. If you don't get this ask questions about moving around afterwards. Make sure you understand what you're not supposed to do so you don't get carried away with post- op housework etc! Also sometimes the anaesthetic makes you feel sick so check about the symptoms of this so you're prepared.
