After being discharged from hospital my anxiety and stress was like a rocket and just went through the roof, according to my dentist that has not helped with the jaw clenching which has damaged my cheeks and such, but recently over the last week I have been more active went out as passenger in car with partner 4 and half hours , onto a bus for a quick journey and a restaraunt for lunch, and a good couple of walks between 1 mile to 3 mile gentle walks, I have noticed my anxiety / stress levels have subsided in a big way I feel so much better , just by giving myself a kick and getting outside for a little while, but again that’s took over 4 month to get to this stage , and being honest it was actually good interacting with other people outside and even the shop staff again , never realised how much I missed the quick chats like that, still a long way to go for sure but physically my body is feeling much better and mental state has improved a lot over the last week just by doing the above, my occupational health and neuropsychologist both say the same great improvement but watch you don’t over do it and knock yourself back, plus side no more sertraline / Prozac or amatriptilyne

Hi Heavychunky1

I felt so much happiness reading your post. It reminded me of my journey and recovery from encephalitis. You are so right when you say it takes time but each step whether you consider it small or a big step is such a huge milestone in your recovery! I'm sure someone (including myself) feels inspired by your post!

Thanks for sharing

Great news! Such a relief to everyone who’s been following your progress on this site. I agree with your doctors though. Please be careful and don’t over do it. I’ve over done it a couple of times when I thought things were getting better only to find myself almost back at the beginning which is really disheartening and difficult to deal with (where I am at the moment). So be careful - but great news for all of us.

Hi Heavychunky1,

It is lovely to hear that you're making progress during your recovery journey and that you are enjoying going out and socialising. Celebrating recovery milestones and keeping track of your recovery on the basis of individual steps can be motivationg when you see the progress you've been making over a period of time. Well done, keep up the good work. Your occupational therapist and neuropsychologist are right in saying that you should be careful not to over do it. It is important to find a balance between activity and rest.
