Head pressure and pain behind ears.

Hi,

Does anyone get bad head pressure behind their ears and base of their head. It makes me feel really whooshy and dizzy. I have had daily pain in my head but over last few weeks it’s got a lot stronger pain and making me feel sick. I had HSE in October 2018. It feels like when your on an aeroplane and your ears pop.

Thank you

Hi Lottie1706

Really sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and are in a lot of pain.

Personally, I have struggled with headaches/ migraines post-encephalitis and this is something I have chatted with my GP and neurologist about. We have set out a plan that works for me. Is this something you have chatted to either your GP or neurologist about? I think that might be a good idea! It's important to check in with the health professionals if you're ever worried, even just to put your mind at ease!

This might be a useful piece of information that I have taken from The Encephalitis Society website - Headaches are common following an ABI which may result from encephalitis. We don’t know for sure why it happens. Headache, for example, may happen because of stress and tension, when the person tries to do too much, or may be a sign of anxiety. Cognitive and behavioural functioning of an individual are influenced by pain. Pain is also associated with depression. It is important to notice pain characteristics such as start, duration, location, triggers, as well as any psychological factors and relief indications. A referral to a neurologist or a pain clinic may be beneficial.

I hope you feel better and your doctor will be of some help!

All the best

Thank you so much for your reply and help. I see a neuropsychologist and my gps prior to covid were very helpful but not so easy to see them now. I will try and get hold of them even if it’s through ask my gp, the constant pain is getting to me and affecting my day to day. Thank you again for your advice.

Take care

Charlotte

I am so sorry that they haven't been a great support during Covid. I have found the same with my own team of doctors but I find if I continuously call them.. they get back to me so I would definitely get onto them again!

No problem at all,

Another thing I do for headaches is mindfulness. Have you tried mindfulness? There are great videos on YouTube and some Apps!

All the best and hope you feel better soon!

Thank you. I will definitely keep pestering them.

I do use mindfulness a lot I do find it helpful. I’ve also started going to an anxiety support group last week which is helpful and supportive.

Many Thanks

Charlotte
