Hi and welcome. Yes - pregnancy hormones loosen up all the joints and my hips both loosened. I had to be very careful when standing/walking and wore pregnancy belts and tight leggings to hold everything together.

Also, I strongly recomment a full body pillow for sleeping as it supports the leg and keeps the hip joint aligned, avoiding it being strained 24/7.

I am on crutches anyway and I’ve got a pregnancy pillow already as that’s what helps me sleep.

I’ll have a look at pregnancy support belts thank you

I have two daughters and suffered from frequent subluxation of my hips throughout both pregnancies. My leg would get stuck at an angle, usually when I was getting up from a chair, and I used to have to lie down and get someone to pull on my ankle in order to be able to straighten my leg. It was very annoying! It was only one hip at a time that would do it, though it could be either hip. Because they slipped out of joint so easily, it was pretty easy to get them to slip back into joint in this way. I don't suppose it's particularly highly recommended, but it worked for me.

I also found that my sacroiliac ligaments (those are the ones that hold your pelvis together at the back) couldn't cope. During my first pregnancy I ended up flat on my back in hospital for three days because they just gave up when I was on my way to the hospital for a check up when I was around 6 months pregnant - I couldn't walk at all and my husband had to go borrow a wheelchair from the hospital to get me there! Fortunately we were nearly there when it happened. After that I had to be very careful not to stand for long periods. I bought one of those folding chairs which doubles as a walking stick and this was invaluable when waiting at bus stops.

My ligaments remained looser than usual for about 6 months after I gave birth on both occasions.

My hips have always tended to be particularly loose. I had severe bilateral hip dysplasia (known as severe bilateral congenital dislocation of the hip at the time - the fashion in medical names does change!) as a baby.

Look after yourself, and try not to overdo walking and standing while you are pregnant.

Hope it goes well for you!

Thank you so much hun! I’m glad other people have gone through it and lived to tell the tale lol

I’m already on crutches and bedrest and will be for pretty much all of it.

Did you have a normal birth or c section

I had a normal birth in both pregnancies, though the doctors were very dubious in advance about this, and I did end up having an epidural during my first pregnancy because they thought they might have to intervene. I just didn't think that I wanted the added stress of recovering from major surgery while also dealing with a newborn, so insisted on at least giving normal delivery a go. I did have to get all my hospital records of treatment from my childhood before they would agree, though - which was interesting as the hospital in question had been replaced by a newer one back when I was six! It probably helped that both of my daughters arrived early - one just over three weeks early and the other four weeks early.

Hope your pregnancy is going well.

I'm so sorry! That must be pretty devastating. I had a possible very early miscarriage between my two girls - never knew for sure whether or not I was pregnant, but certainly thought I was and missed a period followed late by a very heavy period - and that was bad enough. I hope you have a successful pregnancy next time.
