I believe that if you have a particular type of EDS (in my case Hypermobility type) then it is that type you are most likely to pass on to your offspring.

The queries start when you have a combination of types - do you pass on just one or all combinations? Again if both parents have different types of EDS which would the children inherit?

As I understand it, EDS is a hereditary genetic condition and so if you have a gene for a particular type of EDS, then you may pass that type of EDS onto your children. It would follow that if you have the genes for two types of EDS, then you could pass on both of those types to your children. The question of what the children inherit depends on what genes are dominant.

The EDS UK website lists the different types of EDS and how they are inherited:

ehlers-danlos.org/index.php...

It seems that most types of EDS are autosomal dominant and the minority are autosomal recessive. These terms are defined on Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genet...

I am not a geneticist or a doctor and so I am a bit reluctant to try to explain this further!

In my family we only have the classical type of EDS and it seems that it is dominant. So for example, my grandfather had classical EDS. He had two children and both inherited classical EDS. His son had two children, but only one inherited classical EDS. The other is not affected. His daughter had two children and both have classical EDS. So out of 6 babies, 5 were born with classical EDS.

I hope this helps!

The extensive research that I have been doing and the info that my geneticist educated me on is first of EVERYONE who has any form of EDS has type 3 (hypermobility) and usually one form runs through a family, meaning all members that are affected will have the same type of EDS but will showcase different symptoms. I hope this helps!

Actually, my family line has EDS 3 and one of my identical twins has tested positive for EDS 7. We are waiting for results for his identical twin brother, but it looks as if he is a spontaneous mutation.
