Is 4.6 Considered to high?
. Potassium readings over 5 or 5.1 and considered high. 5.6 or higher is extremely high.
Potassium is only concerning when it goes into the 5.0 or 5.5 that is considered as high, 5.9 is very concerning and would need to be investigated. Last year my results came back as 5.9 and then continued to rise up to 6.5. I had daily blood tests done and was advised to go on a low potassium diet, which did the trick as it went back to my baseline which is 4.0 to 4.5.
He is doing great. Each lab has a different range that they consider normal. On average 3.6 up to 5.2 is considered normal. The lab I usually get tested at considers 3.5 up to 5.0 as normal. Whatever lab, average, or typical results you use certainly his current reading is fine. Your lab test results would indicate if a reading of any item in the blood is too high or too low (usually they put an H or L after the number it is is outside of normal for that lab.
3.5 to 5.4 is considered normal. 5.5 to 6.0 is considered high or (mild hyperkalemia). So no your husband is fine.
My lab has normal potassium as 3.5-5.1. So, looks like 4.6 is in the normal range.I am 22+ years post-transplant and at my last lab draw a couple of weeks ago, my potassium was 4.2.
Best of luck!
