This is my first post even though I’ve been reading others posts. I’m having a problem with smelly urine every morning. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is happening.

Hi Kellon50 and welcome to this caring forum. It is normal for urine to have a stronger odour first thing in the morning. After a night's sleep, urine is more concentrated and odourous as well as brighter yellow in colour. Unpleasant smelling urine is a symptom of a urinary tract infection. Common things that can make your urine smell stronger include certain types of food and drink [like asparagus or coffee] being dehydrated, some medicines and vitamin B6 supplements.

Drinking plenty of fluids [as long as you are able to do this] particularly water will help. Avoid drinking a lot of coffee or alcohol.

We are unable to diagnose on this forum, so please make an appointment to see your GP. He/she will ask for a urine sample which will be sent to the laboratory to test for a urinary tract infection and the appropriate treatment [antibiotics] will be prescribed. You may find further information on the Pinned Posts section on the screen. Are any other forum members able to pop by and help Kellon50, please?

Thank you and best wishes.

I had a problem with that too: The route I took was my PCP first, then a Urologist. When they found nothing wrong, thank goodness, I checked my urine pH. Whoops, I was pretty acidic. I got it back in line with sodium bicarbonate tablets twice a day and most of the odor went away. I check the pH twice a day too, it's so easy to get out of whack.

High creatinine also changed the odor of urine, which is more serious. Get the tests for that to cover all possible reasons. Good luck.

Thank you so much. I have seen my doctor and tests were done. They found that protein had spilled into my urine.
