Hi Lala2,

Welcome to this very helpful community.

May I ask if the surgery was renal related and how long ago it was? Have you been on any medications post-op? Sometimes a drop in GFR can just be due to dehydration with the hot weather we have been having? Has it been a small or a large drop in your GFR that you are experiencing?

A website for any additional general information for you to refer to is:

kidneycareuk.org

Hope we can help you further,

Best wishes,

Hello! It was a hysterectomy no medications after just lisinopril and fish oils. GFR dropped about 6 points. In stage 3b

A fluctuation in 6 points can happen anytime. It’s if the drop is consistent over a period of time that there is concern. I’ve had mine fluctuate over 10 points especially if I’ve been sick. It e eventually went back up. However, best to consult your nephrologist. Last time mine did a big dip, she had me do an ultrasound, but it went back up again. Apparently, my nephrologist thinks an ultrasound every year or two is a good idea for me. Don’t think that is the case with everyone. We each have our own individual issues going on.

YEs. I too am stage 3b. In April I had a spine operation. Egfr dropped. I was in hospital 5 days receiving pain medications. At home each night before sleep I would take pain medication. Sometimes during the day to ease aches I would take ibuprofen. Also I noticed that I was drinking less fluids while first at home. All these things caused change in egfr. Then in early June I had a hip replacement. Same routine of hospital, at home pills briefly. Less drinking of fluids. And of course a lot less exercise (of simply walking) and egfr changed. Now slowly as I get better the last test showed it is getting back to where it was.

Thank you for your response! I see my nephrologist in a couple days. I have noticed I have been drinking less fluid after surgery as well. I hope you are recovering well from your surgery
