Your diet sounds pretty good. Do you avoid salt, do you drink water? What about other issues? Is your blood pressure good? Do you take any medication that may affect kidney function (like NSAIDS)? Have you spoken to your doctors to ask why this might be happening?
You need to fully educate yourself from a reliable, up to date, published source on CKD; the book I recommend came out on January 14, 2019 and is available on Amazon. Here is how my GFR INCREASED by 12 points in 12 weeks:
No animal products or diary here, basically a granola cereal with no salt mixed with organic blue berries / strawberries and rice milk or oatmeal for breakfast, Jelly sandwich or tuna for lunch with white( low cal, sodium ,etc ) bread with fruits like plums/ pears,
I was having peaches and oranges a
Until recently lab work showed decline in gfr, found out that was a no good with them. Basically have salmon , shrimp, or chicken breast with veg's (organic carrot,Broc, green beans) with sweet potato, but also after the fact , stopped the sweet potatoes , finding that was a no also. At times have boneless turkey roast with those veggies.Lots of water, daily . Blood pressure is normal 110/70. I'm questioning the results of the lab work also, because first one done at a routine check-up with family doctor ,11/28/17, gave me a GFR @ 64.31, then 5 months later, actually went to kidney care center and doctor said lab results was GFR@ 85 . A year later,4/29/19
lab results were GFR @ 56 . So doctor wanted a ultra sound done and another lab done 10 days later and that came out to be GFR 65.
I am the one confused. In your initial post your wrote, "been having salmon ,shrimp and vegtables as main course meal, some chicken breast." Salmon, shrimp and chicken are certainly not vegan or vegetarian products, they are animal products. And certainly, boneless turkey roast - mentioned in your second post - is an animal product.
Educate yourself. Buy Stopping Kidney Disease by Lee Hull available on Amazon and read it. You will also be available to have an intelligent discussion about CKD and a proper CKD diet with your doctor.
Thanks for the feedback, however in my studies, nothing was wrong with having fish, chicken or turkey, for they are not "red meat". and ok with limited portions
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't run into anything yet that strictly prohibited it .
Vienna, your GFR dropped dramatically. You came here for help. I guided you to the current state of the art CKD book Stopping Kidney Disease published on January 14, 2019. I gave you information from the book. Every educated CKD patient knows meats of any kind and dairy are bad for CKD. Your studies are incomplete. Educate yourself from a proper source. Buy the book and read it. How Not to Die book also backs up the research in Stopping Kidney Disease. Good luck.
I myself just bought the book, very interesting, i have one question, would eggs be considered a meat source? should eggs be cut out also as source of protein?
Hi, Sharon. Eggs are not plant based which is a no-no as far as the book is concerned. Since my wife and I don't like eggs except fried in butter and with cheese on them - which is against the plant based diet, we just gave up eggs. So eggs should be cut out as a source of protein.
If you ABSOLUTELY MUST have eggs, I suggest you cut out everything else that Mr. Hull suggests (all meats, dairy, alcohol, etc.) and see how well you do with eggs as your "cheat."
For protein, we make fruit juice, almond milk, vegan protein powder smoothies with frozen berries and ice. The best quality vegan protein powder for the price is Orgain vegan protein powder found on Amazon. Make sure to click on the 15% off coupon and get the 2.03 pound containers which are the best value.
We also enjoy vegan products like veggie burgers and chicken-less products. These are incredibly tasty protein sources and really make it easy staying on a vegan CKD diet. Just watch the sodium for the rest of the day when you have the one serving per day and try to have these faux meat products only every other day.
I too agree with Becket24, though I haven't given up eggs entirely. I eat egg whites. I can make a mean omelet with egg white and veggies. IHOP actually has a pretty good omelet with egg white and veggies. The egg yoke is loaded with phosphorus which I am trying hard to avoid.
Red meat may be worse than white. However, your kidneys, which are operating at reduced capacity, cannot handle the protein load of a meat diet. Also, in today's kidney toxic environment, many of the frozen and canned foods have phosphorus additives. If that turkey roast says water added, I would be very suspicious of it. In a restaurant you don't know what you are getting. Phosphorus laden baking powder in the bread, phosphorus additives in the food, salt in everything.
