Ramipril medication : hi guys just wanted... - Early CKD Support
Ramipril medication
Hi
I was given a low dose of ramipril for protein leak and have stage 4 ckd. I did not have high blood pressure. I sleep better and have seen no decrease in function.
I was told my function might decrease by 1% but would recover after 6 weeks.
Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor. Like Lisinopril (which I take). You are asking a common concern about ACE's while you have CKD. There are great benefits. There are cautions. Important thing with CKD is to keep blood pressure under control and to prevent protein leakage. An ACE helps with both of these things. However it is also found that it is possible the use of an ACE can harm the kidney (with great consideration to what stage you are in. More harmful in later stages). So a lot depends on your own condition, stage, and control of blood pressure. I have taken lisinopril before CKD and ever since. My gfr remains basically stable (in fact slightly improved). So far, no protein in urine. So it seems for me it works. Here is a link to an article and study about the benefits, or not, of taking an ACE if you have CKD. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/887...
