Kidney diet: Hi. I would like to know more... - Early CKD Support
Kidney diet
Hello and welcome to this very informative community. You don't say were you live so its a little difficult to give you websites to check out. I am sure there are members who can answer your specific questions on fruit and veg to eat. However a balanced diet is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I have included a few websites that may interest you also on your screen are a few 'related posts'. There also very informative videos on YouTube
Please keep us posted as to how you are doing and good luck.

youtu.be/213fxYOPMnE also (diet for Chronic Kidney Disease, youtu.be Dietician Christy Turner at UC San Diego Health) - health.ucsd.edu/nephrology
nhs.uk/conditions/kidneydis... - in there is an overview of CKD.
There are many good web sites for this. Among them:
--A DaVita Dietitian's Top 15 Healthy Foods for People with Kidney ...
--30+ Healthy Low Potassium Farmer's Market Food Finds - DaVita
--Top Low Phosphorus Foods for a Healthy Kidney Diet - DaVita
These all happen to be from DaVita, but other sites would be:
• Renal Support Network provides many support and advocacy services including a phone support line.
• AAKP is a comprehensive resource focusing on the quality of life for kidney patients through education, advocacy, patient engagement and the fostering of patient communities.
• National Kidney Foundation provides a portal for patients too.
I am coming at this from the perspective that if, once you are in stage 4, they tell you to control these things, if I control them now, at stage 3, I am helping my kidneys to work less hard.
You have received a couple of good responses with links to diet websites. All good. I would only add a slight caution, based on what my kidney doctor and other doctors tell me. That each patient is different. Each part of any of the diets you read about do NOT necessarily apply to your condition. For example, perhaps a diet will recommend that you avoid dairy products (just picking an example, it could be protein, or potassium, etc., etc.,), but yet your own personal test indicate you are low in calcium in your body. So this would not apply to you. The key they tell me is as the nurse wrote you, a BALANCED diet. And within the recommended daily requirements. The example my doctors tell me is about protein. That in general a person with CKD should avoid excessive protein. Notice the word excessive. It does not mean you avoid it to the point of being absurd. Just stay within the daily recommended amount. I would bet if you write down in a single day how much protein you are currently consuming (grams), you would be shocked how far above the daily recommended amount you are consuming. They also tell me that going over the "limits" on any particular measurement now and then is NOT harmful. Enjoy that big steak once in a while, or a pizza loaded, etc. Just not part of your daily diet. There are key things that are always recommended. No alcohol. No soda. Drink water. etc., etc.
