Hi! My first suggestion to you is to relax. Please know that there are a lot of us out there that are and have gone through the same thing you are. Try to learn as much as you can about kidney disease. The National Kidney Foundation is a good place to start. The more you learn, the less scary the whole thing is.

There are so many causes of ckd, and everyone reacts differently. Did the doctors tell you why you have ckd? Are you diabetic?

When I was 9, I had strep throat. About 3 months later I was in the hospital with nephritis (an inflammation in my kidneys). Was told that it could recur later in life. When I was 41 all of a sudden I had real high bp. Testing showed I had kidney function at 50% . Further testing with a biopsy showed I had focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. This was 1991. I was put on the transplant list in 1998 and was given the Gift of Life, a new kidney in Oct 1999. So, I am almost 19 years post transplant. My life has hardly been over! I was working full-time till I retired in 2016. My husband and I go on a couple trips a year. Have been to Europe twice, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada. I have been hiking in the Rocky Mountains in Montana & Wyoming. I have no limitations, except to have my renal labs and nephrology appts done quarterly and take my transplant meds. I am living a wonderful life.

Please know that your life does not end with ckd. Drink plenty of fluids, eat salt-free, follow a kidney friendly diet, keep all doctor appts., keep your bp under control and report any problems or issues to your medical team.

Take care & keep in touch!

Thank you, mam, for your inspiring words and brave example. it's a huge relief to know that 19 years of transplant and you are still high in spirits and health. may God bless you with this continuity. I have a couple of questions to ask if it's ok with you.

I am not diabetic. It's stress related I guess my bp was 168/98 and I used to sweat a lot and my food habits were messed up and i guess i am unilateral that's what the ultrasounds say. they can't tell the exact reason but they started me on meds as soon as my cre level was around 7 after that it is all downward spiral

what should I do get this much life for my graft I mean what to eat what not to eat?? can I play sports, I love basketball...and will I be able to marry someone? why do transplants fail in early years? is it because of the age factor or some other reasons? how do i cope up with my emotions . I had my break up 8 months back and at the same time I came to know about my condition since then it's too much to take in. you've really inspired me with your story and I would love to do all that too it's just adjusting to all this is making feel bad about my self.

I am on dialysis right now and when I think about my life 8months back I feel I've lost everything but m much better now I know the know-how of things that directly affect my life.i hope and pray to bounce back better and stronger.

Thank you for telling me it's ok, it means a lot to me.

Hi amit. About your diet.....here in the USA everyone goes to the website davita.com. Not sure you can access or not. The important thing is to be salt/sodium FREE as much as possible. Look at your canned food and packaged goods for the amount of sodium.

_- Of course you can marry. There have been women on this site that have had a transplant and gone on to have successful pregnancies. CKD is not like cancer. You can be a virile and fertile person with a future.

- I think transplants fail because recipients do not do what they should. They miss a dose of your transplant meds for whatever reason. I think some, as time goes by don't have their renal labs done as ordered, nor do they keep their doctor appts. I don't think that age has anything to do with it. I had my transplant when I was 49 and am now living well at 68 - 19 years post transplant.

- As far as sports goes, I would definitely check with your doctor. Vigorous exercise can sometimes make your creatinine rise. The important thing is to stay hydrated. If you are dehydrated it can also make your creatinine rise.

- with your emotions......relax. Yes, CKD is very stressful, but you need to relax. I don't know if you saw in one of my last posts, a poem I try to live by. Believe me ATTITUDE really does make a difference in your life.

ATTITUDE

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude to me is more important than facts.

It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people say or think, or do.

It is more important than giftedness or skill.

It will make or break a company, a church, a home.

The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day regarding the Attitude we will embrace for that day.

I am convinced that LIFE is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
