Travel insurance

I have informed my Travel Insurance company that I need to add CKD to my travel declaration. I have been informed that I need to tell them of my treatment. I am not recieving any treatment as yet but at some point will need dialysis. They are not happy with this and are saying this will void my insurance. Anyone any ideas please?

If you have already told them that the ckd shouldn't matter unless you are nearly ready for dialysis what stage are you at my husbands brother who also has CKD stage 3 never has to put it down on his forms he's just been to america for 10 days! i don't know who he uses though!

Thanks for that, just been onto insurance and told them as I am not receiving any treatment yet , it shouldn't matter. They finally agreed to cover me. At the moment, I see consultants every two months and they have suggested that I should consider transplant. All a bit daunting at the moment.

This has got me thinking are ckd sufferers required to inform life insurance etc?

Will this make the premiums shoot up like a rocket?

Hi BarryWright I'm Stage 3a CKD and 69 yrs old. 5 years ago after being diagnosed, I informed my travel insurance company and they said my policy will not change at present but should my circumstances change, i.e. say 3b or 4 then I must inform them and the policy would change. Sorry I can't be more helpful but hope this info is of some use to you. Good luck

Yes it is useful, thank you . I don't understand what's being said to me, I'm told I've gone down to 13 whatever that means. I've attended a presentation where dialysis and transplant patients where present to discuss their treatments, I found this very informative and worthwhile. Another appointment next week for updates on blood tests.

you sound like your at stage 4/5 your egfr 13 thats 13% function left sounds about right if your talking about transplant & dialysis some people do start dialysis at that level depends how you are feeling my husband was about 6% when he started! some people it can be a couple of years to start from that stage of talking about it! take care x
