I have been told I need a kidney transplant. What's the chance of getting this done if I have a donor?
Hi sorry to hear your news, family members or close friends who volunteer as live donors can be tested, they need to have the same blood type. A kidney from a donor with an incompatible blood type is quickly rejected. The wait on the list can be a long one or you could be lucky it depends on the best match. Hope this helps and good luck.
Thanks for your reply. This has been on the cards for over 12 years but it still came as a shock to know it might actually be happening. I see my local consultant on Monday so I am hoping to get a bit more information then.
Hi Nannie, It always come as a shock even when in our hearts we know it will come one day. Good luck with the appointment on Monday. I was referred to the Birmingham team for a review and was found not to need a transplant at the moment, they were all very nice and extremely professional. I have poly cystic kidney disease and am in stage 3b diagnosed over 30 years ago. I am now being treated for breast cancer so no transplant for me for the next 5 years. Hope all goes well
Hi my 2nd transplant is now only working at 15% had it 24yrs I too have a very brave donor as far as I know they dont have to be a match anymore they can go into the donor pool this means you get the best match you can Im sure the transplant unit will be able to explain all this to you. Good luck with the tranplant Ive been able to live a very full life with mine and am hoping the next one will be just as good
I am having problems at the moment, one specialist thinks I need it and the other doesn't. I think it's going to take a bit of working out!
How do you feel in yourself I think this main thing I still feell ok and keep as fit as possible everyone is different I would keep going as long as you can
