Mother's Day gifts

Just got home from my daughter's. She made a lovely roast dinner and I had cards and gifts from her and her family. The gifts consisted of chocolates, flowers and a bottle of winešŸ˜± The old me would not have been able to get home quick enough in order to open the wine and drink until the bottle was empty. The new sober me put the bottle of wine at the back of the cupboard under the stairs and made a cup of fruit tea. I am not ungrateful for the gift but I will wait until I have a guest to share it with so that I only have one or two glasses.

sounds like you made the right choice and had a good day as well.

When my wife and I ā€œcame outā€ to our children about our sobriety we had to tell them No more alcoholic drinks for presents.

Sadly, they were a bit stumped about what to get us, a bottle of wine was always the obvious choice. That says a lot about the old us!

Good for you. Think about ā€œregiftingā€ the bottle of wine. Thatā€™s what I do when someone gives me booze. Iā€™d rather it not be in the house.

If youā€™re planning on having ā€œone or twoā€ drinks with company, you can always go get another bottle.

All my close friends and family knew I didnā€™t drink, so that was taken care of, but I would receive alcohol from clients occasionally. I either immediately gave it away, threw it away or poured it out. I couldnā€™t take the chance of being tempted by keeping it in my house. Out of sight, out of mind didnā€™t work for me.

hi thats great you made that choice and had a good day, but im uncertain having it in is good, i have stored wine in and other drinks for ages but it will get drank eventually not all in one go these days but as i mentioned i also struggle to keep lid on wine, if you do have it can you mix water with it or none alco,it will lessen the strength as its that what causes problem with wine 2 glasses 5 units and its after that we loose control the demon drink takes over šŸ¤—šŸŒŸ
