After 11 days dry, I hit the booze on Friday. Im not beating my self up too much because I now know that I do have a shot at cutting right down and possibly be free from my drink demons. My next mission is to start again and have a dry October.

Steve, sorry to hear your mistep but glad you are safe and having the desire to pursue this. May I ask what was your mindset just prior to taking that first drink after 11 days? Were you conteplating or it just happened? And have you tried to stay stopped before? Meaning staying stopped on your own? The book Alcoholics anonymous terms this as "peculiar mental twist". They have a story of a car salesman who has no desire to drink but as he is eating his lunch one day, a thought runs through his mind "Whiskey with milk on a full stomach is not going to hurt". Then he acts on it, and they say, the experiment went so well, he orders another and another.......
my son and girlfriend came over and stayed the weekend and it was also my wifes birthday weekend so the temptations were there so it was social drinking....
The book Alcoholics Anonymous throughout the book it talks about "Peculiar mental Twist"/ Blind sports we drinkers run into just prior to taking that first drink. They illustrate it with may stories but I like the Car Salesman story in the chapter "More About Alcoholism".
The protaganist comes into contact with the AA folks. They educate him about alcoholism. He admits he is an alcoholic. But the story goes, he fails to enarlge his spiritual life.
He relapses 6 times, finally they ask him what happened last time. He says, he came to work on Tuesday. Bit irritated, for having to work as a sales person for the firm he once owned (thats one of the resentments). He was looking for a prospect in a village. On his way he feels hungry and goes to a restaurant. He says still no thought of a drink. Orders a sandwich and milk. Still no thought of a drink. He orders another sandwich and milk.
Suddenly a thought comes through, if only he can mix whiskey with milk and drink on a full stomach it wont hurt. He orders one and that triggers the allergy and he orders more and more.
So they say the main problem of he alcoholic is the mind.
