Hello Pgb92, Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately as we age our bodily functions also age. I run into a guy who upto 52 years of his age was able to drink 2 drinks a day consistantly but something happened after that. He couldn't stick to 2 drinks anymore he went over and sometimes backed-out. Eventually he had to come to grips with the term alcoholic. Now, he did struggle a bit, because his mind kept tricking him for a while and once he fully conceded to his innermost self he was able to apply the 12 steps AA and stay stopped.
Thank u I have being drinking heavily for about 10 years I did get it down to a couple of drinks a week a couple of years ago but circumstances changed and I am back up to every night 😡 I’ve realised things must change and are determined to do it
I just need a bit of back up someone to talk to when I’m low that’s why I joined this group I hope it will help me ?
I Smoked cannibis from 14 to 23 I beat that
I smoked cigarettes from 13 to 30 I beat that
Now it’s time to beat this next addiction
I wish everyone luck in beating there addiction because I now know that’s what it is
Big help is to find a hobby. Unless you already have one. Get into some sort of exercise, a sport, bike riding, hiking, the gym etc. i don’t drink everyday but one of the reasons I find myself drinking on the weekend is that I’m bored and use it as an excuse. Exercise does wonders
In AA we dont diagnose others as alcoholic. We allow themselves to arrive at a conclusion. I would suggest, reading the chapter "More about alcoholism" of the book Alocholics Anonymous and see if you can relate. There are 2 tests they suggest. One is to see if you have the physical allergy, to test that drink over a consistent period of time and see if you can drink a safe amount of alcohol everytime. The second is to test the mind. Try to stay away from Alcohol for a year and observe how the mind works. Is it at ease? or is it restless irritable and discontented.........if we fail one of these, we probably an alcoholic. We may have to follow a stricter path.
