I am new and on day two. I am fed up making mistakes whilst under the influence and also destroying my health, so I decided enough is enough I stopping drinking. I gave up smoking beginning of first lockdown, but think this will be harder. I am looking forward to the health benefits and more my money in my purse lol x

Hi welcome to this site I understand exactly what you mean I managed to stop drinking totally for 3 month's and had jar with the money is have roughly spent each week it came to about 25o pound so that 1ooo in a year and I bet it have been more, I need to try that again as more incentive I'm sorry you havnt had any replies yet noticed you posted yesterday just now it does get quite on here sometimes but may help you to read other past posts, I don't know about you but my personality changes when I drink too much if I'm upset and that's the thing I hate the most as I'm a really nice easy going person when sober decisions and comments made when been drinking have caused many problems in my past, I think you will find AA meetings helpful even just listening to there story's is a eye opener many go there hoping to not binge and drink normal but I'm afraid it's often the case of complete abstanance, I can stop at a couple even have none but more often want more and I fear I am not in control of how many I have when really upset, I found drinking non alcohol or mixing helped keeping busy feeling tired on a night without a drink exercise if you can find a hobby distraction is the key, and as you say foccus on all that you said are reasons to stop I ended up with a high liver count this was normal after stopping 3 month's I would like to go to AA again the people were just like us from all walks of life when I last spoke to AA she said there's been so many attending AA since pandemic they are open as normal again too how much do you generally drink each week 🤗xx

Good for you realizing that alcohol has become a problem. This community is a good source of finding like minded people and suggestions to help you. AA is a good friend to help you stop drinking. It’s purpose is not to help you control your drinking, but have a good life without drinking. Alcoholism is a progressive disease. You think you can control it, until you realize it is controlling you. Think of this community as a type of AA meeting. A place for bits of help. Until you find the real thing, AA.❤️🏄‍♀️
