Not sure I should be on this forum. I am retired, not working age. Apparently had a stroke last week, diagnosed at the hospital, but have no lasting effects and it lasted only 5 mins. I thought it would be an ITA. Had no time to question, Saturday, limited staff. Anyone else had a similar episode to this. Thanks.

You are lucky! The best thing to do is learn how to prevent a stroke and the symptoms of stroke. You do not want another one, even a TIA, if you can prevent it. I hope this helps.
Thankyou. I already am at WW and lost over 2 stone over the last year. Do not smoke and have stopped all alchohol for the moment. I know I am lucky compared to some. Just the meds seeming to have an effect on me at the moment (light headedness) or could be my anxiety yes. Sufferer of that as well.
I had a stroke a few weeks ago. I did not know cause I was unaware of it. It was a TIA but now I feel scare of a worse one coming on! I take 10mg of Lipitor and have cut back on some foods. I have high blood pressure and feel that “ stress “ was the cause of it! I have a disable spouse in wheelchair and would be unable to help. I feel alone and scare and so sad it happen. I am working out twice a week with a trainer, but fear that I might be “overdoing” it. I am 69 and was in the military at 33 years old. Fear is building up and scare of “what might” happen! Please reply with some type of support.
Stress can be a contributing factor, so look for ways to relax. You might try meditation. Calm and Headspace are two good apps to get you started. Join a meditation group if possible. Take up relaxing hobbies. Take walks outdoors.
Do you have a neurologist? A good one will help you figure out the optimum in medication, diet, and exercise. Continue working out. Your trainer should guide you on on rigorous you can go. Cardio is excellent for brain health.
Eat whole foods, cut out processed foods and sugars, and limit or eliminate alcohol.
Do you know your cholesterol and triglyceride numbers? Keep them within a healthy range. Maintain normal BP.
If you do all of this, you are doing what you can. Remember that chronic stress is not your friend. Get an occasional break from caregiving if possible. Enjoy yourself as much as possible.
Good luck!
Hi
I have had quite a few TIA's. Each got a little worse. Now I anticipate being missing from my life for about 4hrs each time. I also developed hypersensitivity to medication. So apart from a daily aspirin I stay away from anything that may affect my brain chemistry. I work as a timeline coach and therapist and find helping others helps me. The experts say if I have two within a 30 day period I may not survive the storm. So I live one day at a time! I keep life as simple as possible.
