Hello everyone,

New to the group and glad I found you guys. Recently my dad suffered a hemorrhagic stroke due to a ruptured brain aneurysm. I arrived home and found him not feeling good. Minutes later he was unresponsive and i administered cpr while medics came. He has been in a coma for over three weeks. They installed a trach in his throat and peg in his stomach for feeding. Last week they installed a shunt as well. There is still bleeding in in his head and docs have told us it’s going to take a while to drain. It’s been very difficult times for myself and my family. He was an active handyman and to see him the way he is right now is heart breaking. Any info what to expect or stories similar to my dads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.

Hi there,

My husband had a hemorrhagic stroke as well. It took about 2 weeks for the blood to be drained and the ICP and BP to stabilize. He didn’t speak or respond to physio for a good month after he was brought out of the coma. We weren’t sure if he would be left in a vegetated state but I continued to advocate for him and fortunately he was kept in hospital. We started the see small improvements and one day he responded when I told him I love him. He’s made a full physical recovery but 10 months post event he still struggles with short term memory. This is an extremely long road so please take care of yourselves. I personally found it of benefit to pray. Wishing you the best.
