HI

I wouldn't wait to find out but ask them directly..... In the meantime do use your GP to best advantage and perhaps ask for referral to Community Neuro rehab team ( never knew they existed until I pressed for more help ) . Also the Stroke association may be of help - and Headway were great. Remploy good for employment issues ....

Good luck !

hi moo196

this seem to be a

pattern

with the NHS now

having to fight for most things and unfortunately

there are those

out there that dont always have the energy especially after a stroke to push more to get the help needed.

Your advice is very good and hope it also helps others too on the forum

Its great to have such a kind community here that have given their

time to reply thanks all.

I was seen about 4/5 months after I was discharged. I had community stroke team which was physio and speech and language (i was unable to swallow for 5 weeks ). I also have a very good GP who I see regularly. Hope this helps.

Like most of the messages i waited 3 mths before i got any help. They were quick to call when i came out of hospital to fill in the forms as to what services i required but then it was 3 mths before the help came and that was only after my husband kept ringing to find out what was happening. Good luck but keep ringing up every few weeks to make sure

Thanks for the reply. Although i still have problems with my left side(i fell while recovering) broke my hip and dislocated my shoulder all on the same side as my stroke, so this is the problem with my left shoulder, Mind you i still knit takes me longer go to a craft club and art/colouring club all with the view of trying to make my left hand and shoulder work. So to anyone who reads this just keep trying. My next 2 challanges are to go to the cycle club at Longford Park where they have all kinds of bikes so my husband can help and try my hand at swimming even if i have to wear a ring or bands to help me swim again

Hi, I was told after 6 months to take paracetamol for pain and to just get on with my aphasia. I had my own business at the time so had to just get on with it. Please please push for everything you need because 6 years down the line I have had no help dealing with aphasia, memory impairment, poor concentration, fatigue and pain which my husband had to Google amitriptyline to help with the pain from the nerve damage. I am 42 now and have broken down at work because I can't go on trying to be strong, I am exhausted and feel so alone. Please don't let this happen to you! X
