Hi all my husband has been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia caused by him having at least 3 TIA's. The last one has left him with severe pain down his left hip and leg, will this go or can it be permanent, he is 54. Also how long might he live for., many thanks for any help you can give me.

Thank you, I will see the doctor as its been 3 months now, I didn't mean how long he would live for on account of the strokes more the Vascular Dementia, but I suppose that is for another forum.

Hi Jem, I can only relate from my personal experience. I suffered 5 TIA's between 2011 and 2014, thankfully there hasn't been a recurrence in the past two years. I found the only way to help recovery was almost to urge my brain to work. I did a lot of meditation which may sound total trollup but it has brought me to a point where the only problem I have left is I can only wink with my right eye. The muscles in my left cheek simply don't respond to my will, and I can no longer wiggle or raise my left ear! I suffer spasms in my right thigh similar to the feeling of a vibrating phone.

I forced myself to walk atleast four miles in a morning and again at night which helped the brain to reinforce whatever connections had been affected and Neurons began firing again. I had to become very vigilant and control my inner dialogue, making sure when referring to myself in my head I only used positives!

I developed coping mechanisms because I had to. I was recovering nicely when my beloved Mum was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease and I became her 24/7 carer until she passed to the higher life in 2014. The trauma of her passing all but wiped out the mental toughness I had developed but I now take each day as it arrives and stay focused on getting to midnight, that will be another I've conquered! No two bodies are the same and each individual has to cope their own way but not quitting or allowing what ails us to win, is a good place to start I think! I was advised that if I have 2 more within a 30 day period, the second may see me into the next life, God Bless.
