Hi! My mom 71 has renal failure possibly caused by lupus SLE. I have been sick with worry today. Seeing her go down like this. She sees the Nephrologist tomorrow at 12. I dont know who is more scared her or me. Although her tests have declined over the years this last stage has just seems to have come rapidly. I think my biggest fear is that they say there is nothing they can so. Any tips? Advice would be welcome.

Try taking some deep breaths to take in oxygen and help you relax. Try to go into the meeting with some questions ahead of time and do take notes on what the doctor tells you. There actually are quite a few options for care of kidney failure and the doctor should inform you of all of them. Lupus is a challenging condition to deal with on top of kidney failure, but it can be done. Please try to keep your spirits up and keep encouraging your mother to do whatever is best for her. I have been on hemodialysis at a dialysis center for over two years and i try to go in with a good attitude every time - it helps! Good luck to you!
