Its taken a while, some people can't deal with commitment and dialysis. And many have walked away.

I met a girl online about 6 years ago, and we're engaged now.

People have to realise dialysis patients do have long term extra luggage!

I was 16 and healthy when I met my now ex husband. We were together for 22 years. I can't say dialysis was the reason we split, but it didn't help. If I were ill he didn't cope and chose to ignore it rather than support me. I'm now with a lovely gentleman who is always there for me and takes an interest in my condition. We don't live together; my decision rather than his, and he is still putting up with my nonsense 6 years later!

Oh I am so, so glad someone has brought this topic up! If you can believe it, my husband and I actually met as dialysis patients, so we had a unique 10 year marriage of understanding and mutual support with one another. Sadly he died 3 years ago. I am finding it to be a challenge to find someone who won't go away because of my health. I dated a guy for about 3 months a few months ago now. He didn't want to continue because he didn't want to deal with dialysis or be a caretaker. I'll hang in there, but I'm aware that it might take a while. So glad that you are with a lovely man who is supportive and understanding Nicolala and your soon to be engaged JMan!!
