I'm 18 so try not to think about this but I was on dialysis until August and there was a lot of people in 70s and even 80s who had been on it for a long time so I wouldn't panic :) Also, maybe check with your doctor as it'll obviously vary dependant on other health factors etc!

Hi

I'm in a similar situation as far as wondering how many years I have left. I was on dialysis for just 15 months before I had my transplant 23 years ago. But those 15 months were the worst I've ever experienced. Now I've reached the point where my transplant is not working as well as it has done and I'm left with lots of worries, concerns and decisions to make. I have made one decision already to; to seek the advice of my doctor and nurse specialist and to discuss my fears with them and my wonderful partner. Good luck to you and I guess my email hasn't helped a great deal, but I'm just trying to say you're not alone it's something we all face at times.

Dialysis has improved a LOT in the last 20 years..

I wouldn't look too much at your life expectancy.. Its the one certainty of being born after all.:)

Try and do stuff you enjoy, get out of the house every day, do something you enjoy at LEAST once or twice a week If not more.. And try NEW things:D

And well done for having a tx lasting that long.. My last 3 ain't been so lucky..:)

Hi,

I have been on dialysis for the last 20 years and I am only 37 as I write with 2 failed Tx so far. You have been very fortunate as your Tx lasted you a while. You still not too old for another Tx. I will discuss it with my neph and take it from there.

Good luck

I am the same dialysis at 41 transplant at 43 dialysis at 51. Make the most of each day. I just say to myself it could be worse it could be terminal cancer so get out there and enjoy. Have now been on it 2 years with a neck line as my peritoneal dialysis failed and I won't have a fistula

Dying, it's part of living. The doctors had me in hospice for over six months saying I was going to pass with my end stage renal failure plus I have prostate cancer ,low and behold I am still here. I have discovered dying it's not hard ,living is hard. Keep yourself busy getting your affairs in order for the ones that you love that are going to remain here on this earth. I have a very good doctor that's willing to try new things that's why I am still here. I started PD,and I love it ,makes me feel great. STARTING TO TREAT THE CANCER NEXT WEEK ,WILL SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN THERE .BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY IS I'M TRYING TO GET EVERYTHING IN ORDER IN THE EVENT THAT I GET TO CROSS OVER.
