keto diet works only in presence of insulin in the body.Otherwise it leads to keto acidosis a dangerous condition leading to death

Are you really sure.

You can see below video where T1 is also recommend keto diet.

Very good and informative video presentation on low carb ketogenic diet for T2D.

One needs to be more careful about use of KETO diet for T!. However, proper use of KETO diet for T1 will result in reduced requirement for insulin. Even for LADA where there is a insulin deficiency one should not expect similar kind of benefit with KETO diet as in T2( insulin resistance case) .

yes.when your body does not produce insulin ,the diet becomes acidosis

When the body stops producing insulin,SOP is injecting insulin, right? Are we then going back to square one?It is a bit unclear to me whether someone practicing keto diet does not need insulin shots? How does the equation balance?

Type 1 diabetics have to do shots everyday because the pancreas is unable to produce/send out insulin on its own. If the pancreas does anything, then that’s “wake up “ method. Hope this helps and makes sense!😀

'Insulin is a key player in the control of intermediary metabolism, and the big picture is that it organizes the use of fuels for either storage or oxidation. Through these activities, insulin has profound effects on both carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and significant influences on protein and mineral metabolism. Consequently, derangements in insulin signalling have widespread and devastating effects on many organs and tissues.

Paragraph above is an extract from an article published in NCBI journal. If insulin plays such an important role in all kinds of metabolic activity, how do we justify keto diet which is supposed to bypass insulin requirement? Is that the reason why T1 sufferers take insulin shots, though they avoid carbs? If insulin shots are inevitable, why stress on a high proportion of fat in the diet? Will be thankful if someone throws some real light on this.

Type 1’s have to eat some carbs and protein to keep from severe lows from happening. Carbs are what your brain needs to function with the rest of the body correctly. Also, carbs are what you’re basing your insulin doses on at each meal.

referring to question raised in para2,keto diet works in case of d2 because insulin is there in the body but cant be absorbed by cells because of insulin resistance.Even in case of D2 patients of long duration pancreas in due course stops producing insulin. Therefore keto genicicity works in case of some and does not work in some.If one depends on keto diet one has to monitor urine to constantly check if urine shows ketoacid. It is wise to try keto diet strictly under medical supervision and not follow the diet blindly.

In case of d! patients they do not produce insulin internally, They have to inject insulin and also control carbs to control high blood sugar. This is my understanding and open for correction.

None of the reasons given in the article seem true. Those are just speculations.

The Keto diet can be found to be used by some of the renowned medical centers in the US for diabetic's. I'm seen by a leading doctor of the Cleveland ( University) Clinic. Much support is given and research is directed to educating patients on following this diet. As a Type 1 my blood sugars and A!C's have leveled off incredibly. I wear a DEXCOM monitor which gives me glucose reading 24/7 which is visible and alarms me to highs and lows. Setting 80-200. The diet is used for diverse populations- fat reduction, may husband lost a large amount of weight on this diet, used for seizures in the nuero field just to name a few. A Type 1 or 2 could benefit in closing, although most important check with your doctor before venturing into any new changes.

For Type 1,perhaps keto diet is a default choice,of course under medical supervision. But to my understanding, tackling Type 2 has to be different because the underlying causes are different. No doubt good knowledge about keto diet will help the victims will help them to plan their diet more effectively but the overall strategies will be different on a case to case basis. What I mean is,keto diet is not a default option for Type 2.Steps like weight reduction, moderating food intake, increasing physical activity etc.will also play a critical role.
