Hi.

I'm on the borderline for having diabetes. After dinner, my readings come to the 150 to 180 range. The morning shows fasting at 147. What’s the reason?

HbA1c is 6.7

You are very likely to become diabetic. But you can postpone it for a long period if you take certain steps. Is it possible for you to shed some weight?Even reduction of 2 to 3 kg will go a long way.You should gain thorough knowledge about diet control for diabetics and follow it,increase level of physical activity and lead stress free disciplined life style. You can bring your sugar levels to normal if you act right away

What is the reason?

The reason is we the diabetics cannot process carbohydrate as efficiently as non-diabetics. In the majority of the cases ( type 2D), this is due to insulin resistance but some are due to insulin deficiency also.

Continue with your physical activities but you have to reduce the intake of not only sugar but carbohydrate in general. Reduced intake of carbohydrate( < 100gm a day) will go a long way to reduce your post-meal blood sugar number. What are your height and weight? If you are overweight, losing weight will be very good for achieving lower blood sugar number.

Spend some time to educate yourself about diabetes and effects of diets and lifestyle for managing blood sugar. Your numbers are for diabetics but not very high and therefore it should be possible to manage the condition without medications with your effort and determination. Wish you all the best.

Thank you for your reply.

My height is 5ft 7 in. and the weight is 165 lbs.. I will defintely reduce to 100 gm carb. as you said to do. Carbs are hard to process.

One question still bothers me. It is, before going to bed, my sugar reading comes to 150 range then, after morning it shows reading of 145.

A few months before it did show to 110 or 113.

Does the body pump in extra sugar as mine if it drops?

I'm just curious.

You might be having dawn effect by the morning hours, Mhp03 . Some Diabetics get this after 2 or 3 am. Have you spoken to your doctor about the dawn effect at the last appointment? Do you have bed time snacks?

What is 110 or 113? Morning blood sugar in the past?

Hba1c of 6.7 is confirmed diagnosis for DM. Start LCHF, maintain active life ie no afternoon naps. Just these two changes go a long way.

I wanted to share with you all... my father has been a diabetic for last 25yrs and was on medicines for last 10yrs. Today, after 10months of above changes his fasting sugar is 91, and pp is 108. No extra effort, just this much. He had started having breathlessness and raised BP, Then he started LCHF and multiple short walks daily... God bless you Mr Anup. It was your post that inspired! So nothing is impossible. 😊

Fasting blood sugar is more than 126 mg/dL. It shows that you are diabetic.

Your body mass index is 26 and you have overweight. Reduce your weight in order to prevent type 2 diabetes.

A weight-control strategy might include:--

Choosing low-fat, low-calorie foods

Eating smaller portions

Drinking water instead of sugary drinks

Being physically active

Do not consume food after 7:00 pm.

Walk for 15 minutes after every meal.

Adopt low-carbohydrate diet.
