Advice regarding diabetes to help support my partner
Diabetes is a disease in which your blood sugar is high because your body is not processing your carbohydrates correctly. Sugar or starch comes in via food and should be balanced by the liver and pancreas to be used as energy in the muscles and other organs. In a diabetic the process has gone awry. We see excess in our blood, it turns into body fat and triglycerides and organ damage results from the high levels. The straight forward answer is to bring in much less sugar and starch to prevent excess. Remove all sugar of any form from the diet. Also grains ( bread, rice, oats, corn, barley etc.) which are starch, fruits (sugar) and legumes which are mostly starch. You will get plenty of fiber and nutrition from vegetables that grow above the ground and non-sugar fruits such as olives and avocados. All meat, fowl and fish are wonderful (not breaded or mixed with sugary or starchy sauces). The more you can do this, the less medication you will need, and the less complications down the road. Diabetics should have a goal of normal blood sugar. Anything else leads to damage. Learn what individual foods are doing to the body thru frequent testing.
