Ramipril side effects?

Hello everyone. I have been taking ramipril for just over a week after being diagnosed with elevated blood pressure. Since taking it I keep having spells of dizziness/ vertigo even when I am sitting still. I am also getting lower abdominal pain and lower back pain. Can anyone tell me if these are common side effects please? Thank you all.

Hi Millieannie. I have been on Ramipril since 2005 and I never experienced any side-effects and I am on the maximum dose due to high blood pressure and to stop my kidneys from leaking. I do know it can give you a cough. I had to try a few blood pressure tablets before I got one that suited me. With Atenolol I had hot flushes, cried a lot and could not do my work. It could be that the new tablet has lowered your blood pressure too much. Do you have a blood pressure monitor at home to check? If you are still having side-effects I would contact your pharmacist or GP and let them know. They can always put you on another one as there are so many different ones. Hope this helps.

If a particular medicine is not suiting your body, kindly request your doctor to change the medicine. But before you ask that, atleast try this medicine for 1 month because generally any new medicine when started, our body takes time to adjust. If after one month also, you are feeling unbearable, you can ask for another medicine for blood pressure and there are many options for that.
