Is your diabetes controlled by metformn and metformin alone? Lyrica, or pregbalin as it is best known, has no interactions with metformin whatsoever. Pregabalin has three uses: it is used in GAD (generalised anxiety disorder), as an anti-epilectic and also as a pain treatment for neuropathic pain relief caused by diabetes. If your diabetes is under control then it doesn't seem likely that you were prescribed pregabalin for neuropathic pain but maybe your doctor thought it useful in the treatment you have had for your back trauma. Other than that, everything seems okay and there is nothing to worry about.
How long have you been using metformin?
Both metformin and lyrica can affect your ability to absorb B12 from your food and could lead to a B12 deficiency.
The symptoms of a B12 deficiency are many and wide-spread because it is used by a number of systems in the body - and there is a huge overlap with the symptoms of diabetes - including peripheral neuropathy.
A weakened back and pain could be symptoms of a B12 deficiency. Most GPs associate B12 deficiency with macrocytosis (one type of anaemia in which red blood cells are rounder and larger than normal) and will dismiss B12 as a possibility unless macrocytosis is present. However, significant numbers of patients present with neurological symptoms before any signs of macrocytosis occur.
