My original question was there a relationship to blood pressure(high or low) on how sever Parkinson symptoms' (tremors, balance, head discomforts etc) would be.
Hello
My mum and myself both have PD and both have low blood pressure. It can be more dangerous in some health related illnesses.
My mum has had stents fitted after having a heart attack 6 yrs ago and has to be very careful which prescription/non prescription medications she is taking due to her heart condition.
Parkinson's medications can affect your blood pressure & should be monitored regularly. However, having low BP should be carefully monitored if undergoing surgery/general anaesthetic.
Copy & paste the links below may help as regards your BP question.
yes there is
Can you expand on that answer? Which is worse: High or low BP readings as it relates to PD only. We know that BP readings relate to many other medical conditions.
Hi there,
It is difficult answer your question as I'm not sure what you are asking. PD itself does not cause flustuations in BP so far as I know. Some meds do for some PwP BUT this is not the same reaction for all of us. When I was first diagnosed (dxd) 9 yrs ago, age 55, I was put on Sinemet which caused my BP to drop every time I stood up & generally made me faint & unfit to stand. It was the wrong drug at that time. Now I take it daily to keep going. Unfortunately there is no way to relate BP to PD only as we are complex creatures & will have a variety of conditions which must be treated as part of the whole. Any treatments for other conditions will impact on the PD meds & also possibly on the PD.
Parkinson's may cause postural hypotension, low blood pressure when you stand, because muscles in the blood vessels may be affected in the same way as other muscles. However, some professional advice and monitoring of your meds will be needed because the drugs themselves may also cause postural hypotension.
Postural hypotension may make you feel dizzy when you change from lying down to sitting and then from sitting to standing. Not a good thing if balance is a problem for you with Parkinson's.
Never a simple answer is there?
