how do you guys deal with pain in your feet from muscles drawing up when driving
oh I would like an answer to this ? Also what you do when your legs curl .?
Ok, here is my dysfunctional way of dealing. first I got an automatic instead of the stick I used to drive. Then I watch my right arm ( for me it is the arm) stick up in the air useless. Then I concentrate on not running off the road, trying to decide if I will play the Parkinson's card if I hit anything, ultimately deciding to kep mum because I don't want to lose my license. So far, no crashes. I get home, phew, and eat ice cream and watch something funny on tv.
Nice. I just try and twist my right leg (for me it is the right leg) into a contortionist pretzel to reduce the pain. I already drive an automatic, but since getting PD, I often brake with my left foot, just to reduce the need to control the movements of the right. As for crashes, me, too. None--so far!
My neurologist gave me amantidine at first for the dystonia, but after a while it took something more at night. Sometimes I hurt so much it brings me to tears so they have added morpine er at night and a muscle relaxer. More pills but it is way past just stretching, it feels like what I imagine it was like in the movie by Stephen king "Misery" with James Caan and Kathy Bates, when she hobbles him. She uses a huge oak mallet and smashes his feet. Once I take my shoes of the pain begins. First thing in the morning is worst.

My left knee locks up, and in turn it affects my right (which is artificial) It lasts from 45min to 2hours. The only thing that I can do is ride it out. After which it is painful. Tried taking loratab, but. My neurologist knows about it but nothing for it.
One thing for sure when it locks up there is no walking.
Hard soled boots work for me. I just stomp my foot on the floor to relax it, be careful and make sure to stop first.
Before I stopped driving I use to pull the car over, get out and walk around till it stopped and get back in the car.
A lot of people like myself have had good success with believe it or not Botox injections. Botox relaxes the muscles and it last for a few months.
My botox shot is just beginning to wear off in my right shin and foot. I had the shot in January so its been almost 3 months. I was scheduled to go back in a few weeks but am putting it off until the middle of May. My daughter is graduating with her Master's in special education in a few weeks and trying to work two jobs that it would be difficult for her to take me to the doctors for the next few weeks. Also planning a party for her to celebrate her accomplishment. Will keep me busy for awhile. I highly recommend the botox as long as a specialist does it and knows what they are doing!
i was getting cramps [dystonia] in my feet and the front of my right leg . especially at night. now i'm taking a supplement called "calcium lactate." take four at night or after supper.
it has magnesium also. and the cramping has about stopped or very mild. i was really surprised when it worked. nothing short of a miracle. it is a supplement.
I decided on my own to stop driving! My daughter died in a car accident at the age of 16! I would never be able to live with myself if I caused an accident and someone died! And in just my own opinion, it's not worth it to me! Take a bus, train, bike or pay someone to drive you! Walk and get exercise, whatever, but please don't risk a life over it! Not trying to attack anyone! But after what I have gone through because of someone else's negligence is so beyond awful! Think about others being hurt before getting behind the wheel of a car! Please!
Blessings,
Carol
Us PD sufferers must be careful not to overlook other possible causes or contributing factors to this problem not related to our PD. I too found myself having pain, cramping and clinching of my left foot, most notably while driving. I was certain it was caused by my Parkinson's. But two weeks ago, I had an MRI of my low back and it was determined that an old ruptured disc in my spine at the L5, S1 level was impinging on a nerve that in turn has caused radiculopathy or referred pain in my left foot, cause pines and needles pain, then severe burning pain and now complete numbness in my left big toe, and bottom of my left foot. I will be having an epidural steroid injection in the next week. We will see.
I take turmeric Capsules. I keep them with me I take 2 and wait a bit usually solves the issue I pull over and wait till goes away. Mine usually happens at night not while driving but once or twice now. Im on amantadine also. I keep them with me I take 2 and wait a bit usually solves the issue.
i want to thank each of you for your answers i got some great ideas and i know someone is listening bless you all
I run into foot trouble when I am anxious or rattled while driving. For example, a traffic jam, or a lot of stop and go traffic forces me to pull over and get out to stretch/move around.
