My neuro is putting me on Clonazepan for ... - Cure Parkinson's
My neuro is putting me on Clonazepan for anxiety(and related tremors) and to aid in sleep. Anyone found this medication useful in PD?
I've been taking 2 + years for help with restless legs - very useful for that while I'm sleeping.
Hello Shallot1019,
Re your RLS, I know of two people who have had beneficial results by taking magnesium. One was in the form of magnesium citrate an easily obtained form of this nutrient. Many allopathic medications leech magnesium from our bodies and up to 80% of people in western countries are short of this mineral anyway.

Hi eh110575,
my husband has been taking Clonazepan for some time now for anxiety and to aid him in sleep. It does work for him. It is useful for lowing his anxiety which is caused by PD. he also can sleep better with it. He recently had to have it increased to 2 tabs at night to reduce his movements during sleep. He was starting to dream those vivid dreams and was acting out some movements. I was afraid I was going to be getting a black eye or some big bruises on my legs. The doctor said 2 tabs at night would help this problem and he was right! I and my husband get a more restful night sleep. I hope you have the same good results! God bless you!!
I recently started this. When I laid down at night I'd feel the tremors and worry about everything. It has helped a lot. Since there is a potential for tolerance to this medication, I don't take every night. Also it can make you dizzy and disoriented, so make sure the path to the potty is lit and without obstacles.
I have been taking it off and on for several years. It sometimes helps with sleep, but not alwayss. No effect on Parkinsons for me.
I've been taking it for about a year and it helps with both the tremors and sleep.
I take once at night as sleep aid. I also take valerian and melatonin. I try to take magnesium citrate 3 times a day to prevent cramping and aid in absorbing calcium. Much better than xanax.
I take xanax for anxiety, sleep, etc. Works quickly & well. Clonazepam too slow to go to work for me. I take .5 with Sinemet and 1 to 2 to sleep. Has helped with gastroparesis (developed with P D). Good luck. For RLS I take Requip & have ferritin monitored. Every so often I have ferritin infusion because drops so low.
I took Clonazepam for 4 months. I was still acting out dreams and yelling during sleep. I recently started back on Xanax. It seems to work better for me. I am sleeping better. Another example that meds have different side effects and we all react differently.
My husband takes Clonazepam for sleep and an additional 1/2 tablet during the day for anxiety. This works for him most of the time, but there are times when it doesn't and the anxiety and dreams/restless legs re-occur for several weeks. Then the pills work again. He has been taking this along with many other meds for his PD for 12 years. So it stands to reason that there might be times when his meds are more affective than at other times.
I have been on a very small dose and it has been tremendously helpful.
I have been using this product, clonozepan for only a week it is for my Oakland miss or tremor in my legs. So far I haven't seen much of a difference.. I have been told this is a controlled substance it is to be used with care. It should not be stopped without a doctor's instructions or else the seizures may continue. But I'm glad to hear that it helps with sleep. Now bike only find something to help me not have to go to the restroom about four times a night it would be helpful. Any suggestions?
My doctor put me on it for nightmares which I acted out. Been on it for a year, I still dream but no nightmares.
