I have noticed when reading PWP information that there seems to be a correlation between PWP having siblings that have MS......can anyone shed light on this subject?
My sister has MS: I have noticed when... - Cure Parkinson's
My sister has MS
my siblings are alcoholic (2 died from it). No MS
Hi PatV, Sorry to hear this. I have one alcoholic sibling. Maybe our siblings have less dopamine than the average person......the happy chemical, thus the need to drink.
My alcoholic sibling has trouble with depression. I recently recommended LDN to my sibling, it is GREAT for depression. It is also a dopamine agonist, the reason I take it. And the best part you can't drink alcohol while taking it.
interesting. According to Wikipedia it's an opioid agonist. I wonder if it's been clinically tried for PD. I read an article about the "parkinson's personality" and realized the reason I didn't go as overboard as my sibs was probably due to early undiagnosed PD. Just a theory though.
How does the LDN help your PD?
LDN is also a dopamine agonist...I belong to an LDN forum. It helps all autoimmune diseases......taking it at night stops your endorphins from producing for a few hours and tricks your immune system into overdrive.
My Parkinson's pain decreased 50 to 75% and I am never depressed. I am convinced it will slow the progression.....it is an anti-inflammatory agent. Check out Robert Rogers road to Recovery from Parkinson's talk Radio.....that is where I learned about it. I am also reducing my Parkinson's meds......
My father had rheumatoid and as part of his pain management he would drink. He died as a result of injuries of a car accident at the age of 53, non-alcohol related. It was at the time the worst case of a debilitating illness I had witnessed to that time, he died when I was 18. Could not hold a glass with one hand, took both hands to start a car, needed help putting on a jacket, feet looked like Alladin shoes and shrunk 3 inches in height. No one in both sides of his family line and ever had rheumatoid yet he did. No one on both sides of my family line has had PD yet here I am. Am this stuff ain't no joke. My dad worked as a traveling salesman for a major printing machine company. He never thought of quitting and going on disability. I am 47 and am on disability using a walker to get around, fall sometimes, forget sometimes, hurt all the time. You could SEE his pain on him, joints all messed up. Just looking at him and it was like "Damn, that must hurt like unbelievable." Us though you can't SEE our pain and what we go through like other conditions.
Very true, I have to explain to my wife also.
I EXPLAIN BUTI THIINK HE GETS TIRED OF ALL MY EXPLANATIONS I CANT BLAME HIM POOR GUY, IT CANT BE EASY TO BE MARRIED TO A PARKIE!!
No apparent correlation between siblings having MS and PD.
I have one friend with Parkinson's who has a brother with MS. I have heard there seems to be a correlation for all neuro conditions, but have no proof of this.
