I would like to know if GPs get more money . The reason I ask is I am about change my GP.
Why would a new doctor take on a PD ?

Good morning export
Yes, the way I was told, they get a fixed fee per year for every patient on their books, then they get paid per consultation, with an average number to kick off. Then they get extra payments per llness / condition. Look at the difference between my old one and the new one I saw this week. Old one - meds on 3-monthly batch prescription, meds review 3 monthly by phone. New one - meds reviewed monthly face to face.
Good luck
Adrian
Morning Adrian . I am now convinced and going for it .Please tell me , did the first gp you try,d take you on . ? I have here that the GPs around me have made a pack,t not to pouch for one another ,but hay ho and away we go .

Personally, I don't think they would make a difference between a person with Parkinsons and a person with any long term illness. I can't comment on payments they may or may not receive, but know they work within a budget and should imagine the meds needed would be taken into consideration. I get my meds monthly on a repeat prescription, with update appointments with my GP every few months.
Court if that were the case why would any GP take on a PD. if they could have someone who is not a problem ?

Why would a GP take anyone on no matter what health problems they have? If their patient list is not full. I assume they are obliged to take a person on. I, personally, can't see any difference between a person with Parkinsons and a person with any long term illness. I was registered with my GP for many, many years before I had Parkinsons and the treatment I get is no different now. It is impossible to predict what health issues the future may bring, thak goodness.
There is no reason for a GP not to take you on if you have a Chronic complaint or nothing wrong with you, or even if you have two heads.
Often if you are registered with a large Practice anyway you rarely see the doctor you are registered with.
Because it is an interesting disease
You are all NHS I assume. Here in US I'm in an HMO. I'm required to be assigned to a GP who is required to give me a REFERRAL to every kind of doctor I see except GYN. This is a major pain in the A##. Especially when I have a pain there! I have waited in agony in an office because not only does the GP's referral have to be just so, the @#$%^& insurance company (AEtna in my case) has to OK it. I kept a specialist waiting to do a procedure * and me waiting in my paper gown. Santa , how bout some sanity in the medical system? HOHOHo
I think the most commonly earned name for far too many of them is "GIANT PLONKER"
Count .
Would you not agree PD are more demanding than any group i can think of. In a lot of cases there is nothing to see until you open your mouth and your slurring gives the wrong impression . Need I go on .

Hi Export, not noticed you posting for ages. Have you been well?. Perhaps not if you are changing your GP. Why would a GP take on new PD patients? Perhaps the GP is just interested, PD is after all an interesting ailment.
